When Hawaiʻi students in grades 6 through 12 were invited to use AI in a statewide art competition, the goal was not to hand them a shortcut. It was to put a powerful tool in their hands and let them discover where it extended their imagination and where their own judgment had to lead. This session brings several of those students to the front of the room to share how they iterated on their original pieces with AI as a collaborator. Around their stories, we will make the case that normalizing AI in the classroom now, in age-appropriate and culturally grounded ways, is how we prepare students to be future-ready without ever letting creativity take a back seat. Attendees will leave with a replicable model and an honest account of what worked and what we would change.
