This session highlights how educators across Hawaiʻi designed and implemented a scalable model that combines ethical AI literacy, design thinking, and real world problem solving. Bringing together students from all 15 educational complex areas across seven islands, the program empowers learners to evaluate AI outputs, recognize bias, validate information, and use emerging technologies responsibly while addressing authentic community challenges.
Participants will explore how the initiative has developed student leadership pipelines, supported regional finalists in the Presidential AI Challenge, and created mentorship opportunities where students guide future cohorts. Presenters will share lessons learned, implementation strategies, and practical approaches for building equitable, culturally grounded AI education programs that can be adapted in schools, districts, and states nationwide.
Attendees will leave with actionable ideas for preparing students not only to use AI tools, but to lead thoughtfully and ethically in an AI driven world.
